The Logic of a Southeast Kitchen: A Dance of Wind and Light

In one of our projects in Alibag, the architect insisted on positioning the kitchen in an unconventional location, trying to convince the client of its functionality. However, the client, deeply rooted in Vaastu beliefs, sought our recommendations, as they didn't want to compromise on these guidelines.

The project was extensive, allowing the flexibility to make adjustments. After careful consideration, we recommended placing the kitchen in the southeast corner, with the cooking range facing east. This was not only practical due to the project's design stage but also in alignment with Vaastu principles.

Traditionally southeast corner is called as 'Agni Moola,' the perfect fire energy spot for a Vaastu compliant kitchen. But there is a profound reason behind this placement that goes beyond mere tradition. Across India, the breeze typically flows from the west to the east. Imagine if the kitchen were in the west — spicy aromas would waft through the entire house, embedding every room with their scent. Vaastu wisdom cleverly positions the kitchen in the southeast to prevent smelly houses.

Morning sun rays, another blessing from Mother Nature, flow into the southeast kitchen, naturally sterilizing the space from overnight bacteria. This alignment of architecture with nature’s elements showcases the ancient wisdom of Vaastu.

Vaastu views the kitchen as the heart of the home, vital for both space and personal energy.

Moral: True balance in the home is achieved not just through perfect placements, but by nurturing the energy within.

This highlights the intricate dance between architecture and nature and how embracing both physical and energetic elements creates a harmonious home
